The expansion of the boundaries ensuring the economic security of the enterprise has necessitated a broader perspective on this process in terms of safeguarding enterprise activities. The concept of "safeguarding enterprise activities" is considered from the standpoint of an object-subject approach as a set of interconnected and interdependent security actions, resource-based in space and time, the result of which is a secure state of enterprise security objects with dense interconnections, relationships, and mutual influences.
Safeguarding enterprise activities as a new type of its operations should be the subject of management. Objectivity in managing economic security in terms of practically all objects of economic security falls within the realm of unresolved issues. Therefore, this matter has been addressed by adapting general management theory principles to managing enterprise activity safeguarding, considering the specifics and peculiarities of this new type of enterprise operation.
It is determined that several approaches are used to manage any object or process. The most common is the functional approach, and we see no need to abandon it in the management of enterprise security. The application of the functional approach provides an opportunity to form homogeneous separate blocks of work and operations to manage the security of the enterprise's activities, that is, its functions.
Managing the safeguarding of enterprise activities is viewed from a functional approach, enabling the formulation of a set of management functions reflecting the specifics of managing this type of activity. The scope of management functions in safeguarding enterprise activities, primarily executed by the security department, depends on its competencies.
