At present, when the prevailing type of development of industrial enterprises and the main option for responding to the challenges of modernity is innovative, the problem of assessing their innovative potential is becoming increasingly relevant. In the conditions of modern market risks, the innovative policy of industrial enterprises is the main tool in the competitive struggle, which makes it possible to provide conditions for the full realization of the needs of potential consumers and the exit of business structures from the need to do business in wartime. It is worth noting that the greatest success is achieved by those enterprises that implement innovative activities, are engaged in the manufacture of completely new or significantly improved products, introduce new equipment and ensure a continuous process of managing innovative activity.
But, despite the increased attention to the complex of problems associated with innovative and investment activities at enterprises, the issues of assessing both innovative potential and the impact of the implementation of innovative projects and investments in new equipment on the economic indicators of enterprises remain insufficiently studied. The methods for assessing the impact of developing and producing new products described in the economic literature do not take into account the lost profit in the production of new products. And traditional methods for assessing investments in new equipment often delay its introduction into production, thereby narrowing the boundaries of the use of technologies in entrepreneurial activity.
The article examines the essence of innovative potential. The main methods for assessing innovative potential, developed by domestic and foreign economists, are analyzed. Their key characteristics and shortcomings are identified. The main approaches to methods for assessing innovative potential are characterized.
It is concluded that each of the existing methods for identifying and assessing the innovative potential of an enterprise has its own advantages and disadvantages, and it is impossible to single out the best approach to assessing the innovative potential of an enterprise today. The choice of method depends on the objectives of the assessment, the size of the enterprise, the availability of necessary information and other factors. However, the results of the assessment should contribute to the effective management of innovative activities and maintaining the enterprise at a competitive level.
